Here at Scope, we understand that you are always on the lookout for activities to keep your child occupied and satisfied for the entirety of the school holidays. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of our favourite events and activities that are on around Brisbane during the upcoming September/October break. We’ve found activities nearby for the athletes, the creatives and the curious. To confirm times, pricing, age limits and other relevant details, please consult the links provided.

1. Tetris Show at QPAC

Four acrobats take to the stage to bring the popular game “Tetris” to life. There are even opportunities for members of the audience to be brought on stage and become a part of the interactive fun. Watch in awe as they flip, bend and intertwine with one another.

2. Storytime at Riverbend Books with Davina Bell

Join Davina Bell as she shares her captivating rhyming style by reading her book, “All of the Factors of Why I Love Tractors.” Follow the story of Frankie McGee as he tries to convince his mum to buy him yet another book about tractors. Will he convince her?

3. Adventure Ranger Camp at Kangaroo Point

Hosted by Riverlife Rangers and featured in some of Scope’s previous school holiday blog posts, the Adventure Ranger Camp includes exciting activities such as rock climbing, kayaking and abseiling. Some of these activities are only available with an “Extreme” pass, so consult the link below for further details. The minimum age is 8 years old due to the nature of the activities.

4. Rhythm and Resilience Workshop for Kids and Teens at Scope, Bulimba

Scope is proud to offer our first workshop for kids and teens these holidays. This is a fun, interactive drum workshop to introduce participants to a range of drums and utilise rhythm to support an experience toward mindfulness and relaxation. The facilitators Kathy and Tim will provide a safe, creative space for each participant to express themselves. Children will take away an experience that gives them the opportunity to find their flow, be inspired, and feel relaxed.

5. Arts and Crafts at Bulimba Library

Our local library has a range of events and workshops on over the school holidays. Free arts and crafts, toddler time and a family STEM (science, technology, engineering, maths) night are just some of the activities on offer at Bulimba. Maker Space is a free arts and crafts event for 3-8 year olds. So drop into the library and let your creativity flow.

6. Essay Writing for QCE English at Bulimba Library

This one is for the older student in Year 10, 11, or 12. Here at Scope, we understand the immense stress that can come with preparing for exams. This workshop, run by Scholarly, will help improve the students’ essay writing skills and guide them through the steps to writing a fantastic essay.

7. Riverfire at Camp Hill Bowls Club

The yearly firework spectacle returns this year for its 30th birthday and to celebrate the end of Brisbane Festival. We recommend snagging a less crowded spot: why not enjoy the festivities locally at the Camp Hill Bowls Club! Fantastic family friendly activities and a great view, so be sure to check their website for details for Sunday all afternoon.

8. Kids Collective at Southbank

This is a wonderful incentive held every Thursday at South Bank Parklands for those aged 0 – 5 years old. Kids Collective organise a range of free activities to keep your little ones occupied and engaged. Your kids will be able to participate in activities including arts and crafts for creativity, musical play and engineering challenges.

9. Kids Collective at Roma St Parkland

The same group bringing you activities at Southbank will also be providing fun times at Roma Street Parkland for the 5 – 12 year olds. This specific event is only on during the school holidays, but they certainly make up for lost time by offering activities on Thursday, Friday AND Saturday. Just like the Southbank activities, they are all free!

10. Free Play at My First Gym, Hawthorne

My First Gym in Hawthorne is offering a daily holiday camp from 12pm-3pm with fun themes! They also have a “Free Play” session for their members to get the sillies out if you are looking for something to do on a hot day with the kids! Check for their detailed schedules on their website, and keep this kids active and moving these holidays!

11. It’s Rocket Science at Carindale Recreation Reserve and Colmslie Beach Reserve

Another STEM event held at Carindale these school holidays as part of Brisbane City Council’s Active Parks program. For a small fee, your child will be able to build and launch a water rocket into the sky. All you need to bring is an empty 1.25L soft drink bottle which will become the rocket. Several other similar programs are available at locations further on the outskirts of Brisbane, so check the “It’s Rocket Science” website for more information.

12. Cheeky Monkey Show: Play Date in Bulimba Memorial Park

The Cheeky Monkey Club provide great content and entertainment for children and their parents all over Australia. Join them for a play date in Bulimba Memorial Park. This is a free event with the theme, “search for treasure island.”

13. Andy’s Amazing Adventures, Live on Stage at the Powerhouse

Andy Day, star of ABC Kids’ Andy’s Wild Adventures, and Andy’s Prehistoric Adventures, brings his fascination with animals to the stage this October. Join him at the Brisbane Powerhouse as he uses music, comedy and educational fun to entertain the audience. This show is suitable for ages 3 and over.

14. Free Self-Defence for Females at Bulimba Memorial Park

This is an amazing free class for females aged 5-17 years old to learn basic, but essential self-defence skills. Although bookings are essential, all you need for the event is sports clothing, a hat and water bottle.

15. Spacecraft Workshops at Queensland Museum

Queensland Museum has created specialised flight tunnels in which you can test your paper spacecraft’s ability to hover. Your child will be taught about the STEM principles around flight, and assisted in building their own craft.

16. Bubble Soccer for Teens at Camp Hill

At Whites Hill Reserve, you will participate in a range of different bubble games while you bounce around in a huge zorb ball. Although this event is free, bookings are essential and due to the nature of activities, it is restricted to children aged 11 – 17.Be sure to remember your water bottle and exercise clothing

17. Inflatable Games at Eat Street Northshore

Eat Street’s Inflatable Games are back by popular demand! Your ticket will give you access to unlimited rides and games. You will find all the fun underneath the “Eat” sign in car park 1.

18. Netball Camp by Australian Sports Camps at Upper Mount Gravatt

The ASC Netball Camp in Upper Mount Gravatt features a 3 day coaching program in all facets of netball with specialised coaching sessions. The panel will include experienced netball coaches with guest coaching from leading players.
